reminders of what beauty once was.

Prelude: “Currently I feel like I’m being suffocated by something that's not there. As if a void stammers out my thoughts of joy and there is nothing to be had. Sometimes I wish to become as of nothing, to be whole with the nothing that currently consumes my heart.”

I wake to the most beautiful scene. The sun pours in through the boughs of the great oak tree across the street. The Earth takes its morning breaths as dust rises through the twilight. The old plantation home's wrap around porch is moistened with the dew of the saturated thick air of late summer. The cotton of orange, pink, and purple sky paints the motif of the yellow plantation home as the sun ever creeps over the peak of it peering through the darkness of the oaks leaves.

A Pebbly Path

You took me by the hand
as we walked this pebbly path.
Walking barefooted over soft,
smooth stones and dewy wet grass.

The sun peeking at our faces,
through the twilight haze and tangled branches.
The light wrapping our skin,
we feel warmth in its blanket.

Cool smooth clay under our feet,
caking itself to the bottom of our heels.
How I enjoyed those walks with you,
walks lasting to the last daylight.

You turn to me, admittedly, eyes growing dolefully,
'It's time to go home.' you would say,
'for we can no longer walk today,
with out the sun to guide our way.'

We make our way back,
through that pebbly path.
Our breath holds in the air,
like ghostly memories of the past.

I know we can no longer stay,
but how I enjoyed the walk that day.
Perhaps our paths will cross again,
and you and I can share this path until time's end.
