Samuel Marks Poems

For progress we work,
Through buildings we lurk.
Hoping for a day
For simpler days.
...

A gradual suffocation beneath
A thousand sheets of egyptian cotton,
My thoughts of you haunt me through nights' bequeath
For the sad sorrows of those forgotten.
...

I see you in my dreams, I do swear it
Your presence neither had nor requited,
And O my countenance, frowns do wear it
Gained something, somewhere, sometime delighted.

Progress

For progress we work,
Through buildings we lurk.
Hoping for a day
For simpler days.
For easier ways
For progress.

For progress we thrive,
Through staying alive.
Wishing tomorrow
Fills not with sorrow
And succeed tomorrow
With progress.

For progress we die
Through aqueous eye.
Belief that all's fine
Is a belief sublime.
But why bother ones time?
Why progress?

For progress we act,
As a matter of fact.
Knowing true happiness
Comes not from inside.
To improve ourselves
Is to fix broken shelves,
Damaged by days
That we cannot hide.

The dogs come at night,
With their claws they cause fright.
And their devilish smiles, grins
And smirks.
Trampling on many
For but a few penny
To escape the cramped buildings
They lurk.

Through storms that we weather,
Alone or together.
Life is never so simple,
Or easy; we crimple
And tear from harsh winds,
We die from within
The unreachable, forced state
Of progress.
