A battered kite nipped my ear
As it finally crashed.
His feeble fluttering poked my curiosity
As I bent down, his smile though torn, flashed at me.
I wondered at the life he must have led.
Clutched to the heart of a little grubby boy
Who rescued him from the dinghy place where he was made.
The feel of astonishment when he
First soared into the sky,
Held back only by a slender thread.
The rage and power he experienced
When he trapped and tore another kite.
The giddy days when he won innumerable battles.
But slowly he realised that the thin thread
