Let Us Choose Love

What is this world we live in?
This doesn't make any sense!
How could someone ever do that?
Grief around the nation palpable and dense.

We can't help but hold our children tighter~
For fear they too could be whisked away.
Like one of the innocent students~
On such a tragic day.

Our hearts ache with such grief and sorrow~
As it seems such an absurd and senseless crime.
To take the lives of the young and innocent~
Wishing we could turn back the hands of time.

If we could...what would we do different?
What would we change...how would things be?
Would we hold on tight to our loved ones forever?
Would we act kinder to those that we see?

Would we take away guns from everyone?
Or just the people who look like they could be of danger?
As the guns placed in the hands of this young man,
were purchased by his mother...not an unlawful stranger.

Do we put barb wire fences around each and every school?
An alarm system to deter unwanted attacks?
This school too had a system in place.
Or is it the security of a nation that is in lack?

There are people that live in fear and worry~
Because in their life they've never felt safe and secure.
Taught that the world is scary and unpredictable~
And of people's motives you can never be sure.

We live in a fear based world~
Lives are taken everyday.
People fight for what they believe in~
and ultimately someones life is taken away.

When we live in a world that solves conflict with guns~
Surrounded with a security system in place called national defense.
We lose loved ones everyday to operate this system,
Does it ever make any sense?

What happened at the school is much the same~
Only the nation is aware with nervous tension.
The little lives that were lost were not in vain~
They are angels in heaven now wanting us to pay attention.

As we are focused on the event~
And pointing fingers of blame and dismay.
I feel in my heart what they would want~
Is for us all to gather and pray.

For PEACE on earth and in our hearts~
For LOVE to ALWAYS lead the way.
Never taking a life for granted~
And to never forget their lives lost that day.

Let them be a reminder to us all~
That we have a choice as women and men.
To live a life of love and not fear~
For we don't want this to happen again.

We all can make a difference~
by how we choose to live.
Lets put away our weapons of destruction~
And only choose LOVE to give.

It starts right here and now~
It starts with me and you.
We can change the world~
By how we live and what we do.

In memory of the lives lost~ 
This holiday season pray for love and peace to infuse the earth.
Give thanks for every one of your blessings~
and LOVE for all your worth.
