Time
I answered the ring at the door this morning
It was a nicely groomed young man standing with a large book, stop watch, box of tissue, plane tickets and a glass of orange juice
He politely asked for me and I affirmed that I was she
Then he asked if he could come in and sit with me for a moment to speak about life
I am not too sure why I agreed but I let him in without hesitation
He started the stop watch to begin
I offered him something to drink and he declined and took a sip from the orange juice he was covering with his plane tickets
He indicated that he did not have much time so he would be quick
He opened the book where my name and address was hanging from a book mark
And began to read a loud all of my opportunities, joys, pleasures, accomplishments, dreams, failures and obstacles that I had experienced so far through my life
All of the emotions hit me at once and I begin to weep – he handed me the box of tissue
So much love, laughter and happiness I have experienced
So many things that could have played out differently
So many things that I still need to do
So many things I will not do
It is so true time waits for no one
Yes, I do he replied – I am Time
He began to explain that he does wait but only for those that are interested in the outcome intended for them
Don’t rush through life thinking that you must complete this task and that task without learning the lesson
I have the power to make time feel like it is standing still
And the ability to make it seem as though you have no time left
But it is always up to you how well you spend the time allotted for you
Well I must leave, Time said – there is someone I must speak with and the only time I can catch him is on the plane
In a blink of an eye – he closed his book, stopped his watch, grabbed his box of tissue, tucked his plane tickets under his arm and finished his orange juice
And I woke up to my children singing happy birthday!
