Cinder And Ash

We dragged the man
His pleading drowned out only by our cries,
by our laughter
And our flames encompassed his shape
Intoxicated with the scent of flesh
We wailed in elation, eyes always aflame

But there was a body that rose
Brushed off the ash, let the smoke clear
And we shook with terror, teeth gnashing
Wailing for deliverance
but we could never look away
So we clothed it in all manner of hides
We crowned it with horns
and spoke only of its majesty
Oh no. no.

And though the cinder and ash still clung to its form
