My Town

The town feels so unfamiliar and incongruous now.
The roads are smoother but feel rougher now.
Shops are more coruscating, houses and cars are bigger.
Richer are the people who used to pull the trigger.
Schools and colleges have increased; irony is the single book store.
Development is only monetary, what good is knowledge for?
Clout is the job qualification; employment scheme is nepotism.
The town is adapting to crime and drugs after surviving terrorism.
Half the populace are monkeys, just aping what others do.
Teenagers act like they have ties with a gang or two.
The dulcet melody of the song sparrows can't be heard anymore,
Faunae are now exotic characters of our folklore.
Days are now filled with the cacophonies of horn and engine;
So much tyred, that the asphalt has given in.
Buildings are now taller, morals are now lower.
Chasing dreams is tedious and onerous, so they chase power.
Social activists of present are goons of a decade ago.
The opulent are supercilious drunk on their ego.
I hoped for change but this is not what I dreamt of.
A deteriorating development is nothing to be proud of.
‘Sons of the Soil' is a disregarded feeling and phrase now.
History repeats itself, so I am lingering just for the past now.
