A grain of smile, a grain of lour
only this is left of my day
so I sit and stare at this dying flower
as life at last beats away
...
A Grain Of Smile
A grain of smile, a grain of lour
only this is left of my day
so I sit and stare at this dying flower
as life at last beats away
I had no star to lead my soul ahead
I had no hand to hold through it all
so never did matter all the books I read
nor did my music stain this empty hall
This i said to you a lifetime ago
only never to be heard
Forget the world for just a little
and leave the house of cards
before you are too lost and brittle!
Break it all and burn the shards
go on - it may help, just a little
Yet it did - enough to raise my weary eyes
just when my lids are about to close
under the weight of all the countless lies
and see you there, holding my dying rose
And then - I let go -
knowing that I ever had
only a grain of smile, a grain of lour
