The Poetry Within Me

It follows me wherever I go
A gentle whispering in my ear
Showing me things
With my mind's eye that even I
Sometimes don't recognize
I try to run from it
Sometimes I try to hide
But I can't because it's already inside
Within the inner chambers of my mind
Embedded so deep in my thoughts that
At times it makes me want to cry

But then I listen to the words as they roll
Across my eardrums
Beating down fiercely
Into my thoughts
Words begin to gather in my heart
I reach for my pen and begin to write
