People Like Me

Some people are thankful for a beating heart,
But for outsiders, and unwanteds,
people like me,
it’s just a curse.
A curse of breath,
A curse of life.
Our outlook on not just life, but the world itself,
is different,
for people like me,
the wind is harsh on our skin,
Dark nights become longer,
Smiles become lies,
That hide our true feeling.
Feelings of self hate and worthlessness.
That’s what consumes us.
Every second of every moment our thoughts are unclear,
For people like me, we’re in war.
“But who are you fighting? ” they ask.
Ourselves,
Every night it’s a constant battle between life,
or death.
I have battle scars on my wrist to prove it.
Because what doesn’t kill you,
makes you wish it did...
