A Sunless Afternoon

A quick paced jog along the river's side,
Among the silent and the wise,
my chest beats faster, longing, every stride.
Between their faintly glowing leaves, grey skies.

Flowing voids I'd chase and leave behind.
Instead, a tender silence follows.
A cold worked heart knows not what it will find,
Within the scant cohesive thoughts one wallows

How quickly life is seen to flutter by,
For those we care pass on so soon,
Between the dusty rays of sleep, a blinking eye,
Upon a sunless afternoon.
