Your Sister

Your sister in delhi trying to fit
but the pranksters are never to quietly sit
for the competition is to show false wit
and the twenty-two year old strives to make her ends meet.

She sacrificed the love of her life,
a boy from chandigarh it was then
and now its her insecure husband
whose mother acts as if she's on rent.

journeyed from the city of joy to the national capital,
its with only herself that she has to battle
for her mind sometimes that may be rattled,
she tries to love her kitchen still.

And your hard-voiced fathers thoughts about the society
ignores her daughter's plight in the new city,
meanwhile your sister tries to find positivity
in the mouths flooded with cruelty.
she has to fight, she knows she will.

Its the false politics of the mind,
marriage is not a treaty to sign,
prey of loves anger she has paid the fee
not measured in the dowries that her fate didn't decree
yet she bows down to the deal.

And to say of her chattered-accountant husband,
he thinks of his wife as something to gain
fools himself by not knowing her pain
and says that your'e his friend.
your sister for him still tries to feel.

Far and away in an alien land
with a new family at her hand,
trying to fulfill all their demands,
thus stuck at the grocery brands.
look closely, wounds are there to be healed.

And so meanwhile in her domestic exile,
she gently sweeps up her tears and tries to smile
fearing her fears but learning to fight
and deep in her heart not fearing the might.
your sister has won unknowingly.
