Talaat skairek Biography

A Palestinian from Haifa ….born in Tripoli ( Lebanon) in 1953, but spent his childhood in Damascus and pursued his various stages of education there, where he specialized in Arabic Literature and graduated from Damascus University with a B.A. in Arabic Literature back in 1979 . • He has worked in the field of journalism since 1976, and is still in charge of the Cultural Section at “ Sawt Filistin” magazine ( Voice of Palestine” since 1979). Besides, he was office director in Syria and Lebanon of the Weekly newspaper “ Shababik” issued in Malta as well as a senior editor of that newspaper until 1997. • He worked as director of “ Al-Maqdisiya” publishing house in Syria up to 2001. He is also owner and chief editor of “ Al-Misbar” magazine, chief of “ Al-Misbar” Association for Arab Creativity ….and owner of “ Al-Misbar” publishing & distribution house. • He has remarkable contribution in the fields of poetry, stories, very short stories and the novel, as well literary criticism . He has also written a number of single-act plays, some of which were acted on the stage. • Mr. Skairik is also a folk song writer. Many of his songs were sung by various troupes and were broadcast by several Arab broadcasting stations. Most of his literary works were published in the Arab journals and dailies. He was guest of several Arab broadcasting services and TV networks. • He is a member of Palestinian Journalists Union, Syrian Journalists Union, Arab Writers Union ,and Modern Literature Union ( Egypt). • Some of his poems and stories were translated into English. • He was awarded a number of distinguished awards including an award for “ A Salute to Intifada Children” published by the Syrian Ministry of Culture in 2001. • His works include “ A Tune on the Strings of Love” poem,1974, “ Most Beautiful Year” poem ,1975, “ Sweetest Seasons of Love “, poem, 1976, and “ Travels” , poem,1977, “ First Portrait of Love” poem,1980, “ Ghosts in a Cloudy Memory “ novel, 1979, “ Child Masoud’s Anecdotes” , novel , 1984, “ This is the Palestinian…be a Witness” poem, 1986 , “ The Tent”, very short stories, 1987, “ The Knife”, very short stories, 1987, “ You are the Palestinian “ , poem , 1987, “ Islam and Ethics “, study, 1990, “ Islam, the Religion of Action”, study, 1991, “ Palestinian Songs”, folk poetry , 1993, “ A Moon on My Lyre”, poem, 1993, “ The Second Generation of the Poetry of Resistance”, study, 1993, “ Glimpses” poem , “ Cards Open on Time” a volume of poems of which several cards were issued, “ Twenty Moons for the Homeland”, study , 1966, “ The Sails” short stories, 1966, “ Possibilities” , short stories, “ The Impossible Lilac Bird” , poem, 1998, “ A Palestine Directory”, “ Mystic Poems”, “ Time of Sweet Confessions” co/ work with Layla Maqdisi , 1999, “ The Intifada in the Occupied Land Verse” , study –Dar Al-Jaleel , 1999 ….” The Feather and the Dream” , stories, 2001)
