A Poem For My Piglet

In the wake I wondered, why am I left so alone
You're not here with me, it’s empty, even in a crowd
The empty is here in the light and in the dark
For a brief instant I think you’re here, not so long ago
You were……
I hear you, at night when I go to bed
All the babies come up the stairs to sleep
I hear one last baby come up those steps
So familiar the sound, always the last to come to bed
The hesitation at the top, as if you were scoping out your spot
It’s you, I know this all too well, I turn to look
But you're not there, but yet you are, because I listened and heard you
Your spot, always yours, only one lays there on occasion
Even though she’s not you, she gives me hints that remind me…….
You will live on in each of them, for as long as I can love another
