To Carry Sunlight

Away from the dark cave in the hill:
White roses grow wild, sure of their beauty,
Yellow sun bends around waterfalls
Keeping snoek in fresh streams for all time
And the buffalo brave beside the lion.
Down from that hole of the unknown:
I've seen the sun fixed above, careful
Not to block the moon in its morning walk,
I've seen the stars shine only for themselves,
In a light where love is more sure than death.

The light rests on my shoulders,
Blessing the scarred spot of forgotten burdens.
