As if walking around the bend on the street,
As if on that bend, acquainted with a shadow,
As if knowing once again, not to pause my feet,
...
Mrs. P's empty house, insomniac as an old guard,
Watches the new town grow around its weed filled yard,
While standing on a frozen time, stagnant air behind the cold
...
As If
As if walking around the bend on the street,
As if on that bend, acquainted with a shadow,
As if knowing once again, not to pause my feet,
As if following it for reasons I didn't know
Then as if I outwalked it, emptying my eyes
And stopped not knowing where else to go.
Other shadows moved ahead - I could not recognise
With sun shining around them - as if a sinister grin,
How could I obtain the wisdom to compromise
And clear my way through a pile of gibberish din
Set by the traffic sounds crowding my view?
Behind me somewhere on the street's bending
As if I went back to find that familiar shadow, to renew
My acquaintance. The street ahead remained as if to continue.
