It is a known truth
perhaps the only truth
that Nature fights

dark, dying thoughts dance
across my mind like waves
rushing towards some unknown
kingdom. Butchers, assassins,

Yesterday I saw a homeless man waiting for a bus.
He sat on a bench wearing winter clothes in the blazing
sun, facing a highway where cars buzzed from one oblivion
to the next. He spoke loudly to himself, as a priest performing Eucharist

Wildfire

It is a known truth
perhaps the only truth
that Nature fights

but one war
one eternal war
one foe
that further to understand

this
is to understand the world
every world
Nature has but one enemy

and that is imbalance
This fire
that will not be denied
these flames scuttling

towards the shoreline
have two meanings
Do you not understand these
meanings

It is a shearing
an irreversible act of severance
Let us rub the

cloying ash
along our remaining hair
massaging it deep
into our pate

Within a few days
the rest of our hair
will fall away
leaving us bald
