There is still inequality in this world of many different faces
Racism and prejudices are found in many of its races
In the African American culture
It’s between the dark and light skin
...

There are storms raging all around.
In our own lives and it’s sometimes.
Hard to stand
When you’re at your lowest

I’m really not liking this thing we’re going through
Makes me feel like I could be a fool
Oh yeah I know our souls are locked
But somehow I feel like you, your feelings you block
...

Today I sit here and ponder the trials and struggles that have been won
Remembering the marches and the words of faith,
“We shall overcome” were the words sung.
The verse in Hebrews, “Now faith is the substance,
...

I’m falling in deep with my sins left to reap
Because of your actions, my promise I did not keep
Ghosts of my past stare in my face
Living in lust and out of your grace
...

You see I’ve changed
No longer am I a bird in cage
My wings have spread and I’m ready to fly

Inequality

There is still inequality in this world of many different faces
Racism and prejudices are found in many of its races
In the African American culture
It’s between the dark and light skin
We can’t stop it around us
If we can’t stop it within
See, I’ve been talked about, teased and put down
All because my skin is a lighter shade of brown
I didn’t ask to be this complexion
I didn’t ask to be the “High Yella Girl Spokesperson”
All that I ask is that you respect me always
Not because of my light skin and light eyes
Respect me because I am a person created by God
Respect me because I hold my family down on my own
Respect me because you love all of the shades of brown
Be happy when success I achieve
Be happy because in dreams I believe
Encourage me when I don’t think I can make it
Be genuine and don’t try to fake it
But most of all-trust in the African American name
All of the trials and obstacles that we overcame
Know that we are diamonds that shine so bright
Know that we are worth more than the stars at night
Know that we are created to be more than conquerors
Know that we are more than statistics report
Know that we united together are a mighty shield
Know that we have to believe in each other to make others yield
We are strong, might and unique
Martin started the journey—all we have to do is complete.
