Chains

You whisper that you love me
But yet I feel nothing but hurt
They seem like empty words
Just like the love you have given me
I can’t understand how you managed to fool me
Perhaps your smile was too good for me to refuse

Everyone thought I was so happy
I managed to fool them too

You thought I didn’t know what you have done
I kept my broken heart a secret from the world
Yet my eyes would tell a different story
Of a girl that was feeling very lonely

I acted the part really well
Even you thought you had me wrapped around your finger
Sometimes I would forget that it was all a game
And I would get lost in your smile again

I will carry on as I am
Pretending everything is just fine
When deep inside I am dying to get out
Of this love affair that’s drowning my spirit

I hope one day I have the courage to walk away
And be free from the chains you put around me
