New Day
Graceful ripples breaking out of the blue
As my vessel wades down the stream
Night waned, the dark retreating into the distance
I see the blush of dawn at the waking sky
The red-overcast simply taking my breath away
I thrust my oars and row further away
Into the waves and breeze so soothing and deep
I see a sight so touching in its majesty
Never did the sun more beautifully steep
Never have I seen, never felt a calm, so tender and sweet
My vessel sails on now, parting the rivers
Grasses and cornfields spread out yonder banks
Stalks rooted and young swaying to nature’s tune
Their scent so sweet, filling my being
From high above, little birds come calling
Together they dive only to turn away
At the sight of thatched horror deep within the leas
Their chorus renders frightened caws
They chirp and sing another song
The tune catches on spreading out the vale
Goading more to sing along
The breeze from afar blows at my face
It surrounds me, whispering its tales of yore
The sun goes down now, yielding to the moon
To the gray things, the dark things,
To the far, deep things of dreamland
And with day’s close hastily arriving now
I close my eyes, a slave of own dreams
It is, after all, nature’s will
All that begins must end one way
