Freedom Summer
The mean~hearted are watching fro the Just
seeking the occasion to destroy them
...
Years ago
where rice is planted
near the Irrawaddy River
King Alaungpaya
...
A Place Called Hope
Wandering here and going there
feeling lost and just afraid
...
Have a Year of Milk and Honey
A wish for Happiness,
A holy path to Heaven
...
Lahaina Serenade
Meet under the expansive Banyan tree near the Waterfront
Amazed at the anchored Tall Ship
...
Hoosier Style
Rare and with quality
some with nickel plated headlamps
...
The Way of Peace
Evening shadows fall upon the highest peaks
Down below the twinkling lights begin to illuminate
...
Rising out of the mists
Mount Kailas
a holy pilgrimage site
Its snows reflect
...
The Elder
spoke to the gathering,
They came to listen and learn
about the First People
...
When in the lonely winter one longs
for the beauty and warmth of Spring
I miss your presence and the leaves of green
the last time your hand touched mine
...
Candleglow - the halos glimmer
on the sacred portraits - icons
communicate examples of piety
a kiss delivered for the nearness of devotion
...
The young soldier looks in the
Wise doctor's eyes
Saying, ''Please don't let me die.''
Mothers, Fathers
...
Ready the Skipjack
out in the Chesapeake
Oysters are fewer-still waiting to be brought up
from the sandy depths
...
They are used to carry
jute to the mills
from village to village
and to the market

Freedom Summer
Freedom Summer
The mean~hearted are watching fro the Just
seeking the occasion to destroy them
Foxtail grows
Steamboats make their
way down the Mississippi
Nineteen~Hundred and Sixty~four
youth and idealism
were what nurtured
the idea
Everyone in this society
should have the
ability to vote
Years have passed since
that time called
Freedom Summer
Haunted by the shame of mistreatment
meandering direction
in the enforcement
of voter rights law
We can evoke the
passions of yesterday
The sweet taste of Liberty
experienced on the streets
must be defended
with the decree of
Justice for all
