Dragonflies

Dragonflies
As they skim across the sky
Low or high, where do they fly?
So fast that it eludes sight
As emerald green wings take flight

Today of which myths we admire
Were their ancestor who exhaled scorching fire
Their plain cousins reside in many a garbage heap
The family has grown, leap by leap

Now they fly over cars
Or are caged in glass jars
Many visit to come and see
But none think to set them free

The dragon flies bravely now
One wonder does it how
Agile it flies with great speed
Majestic amongst all its creed
Sadly it has lost its roar
Free them now and let them soar.
