Imperfect Mind

That thing that’s gone, that clever thing,
That thing I cannot find.
I do not think, I know my mind,
That clever thing was mine.

I had it caught;
Diverted thoughts
Steered me through a cloud.
I turn back and now I see,
Only clues to a distant, gone, vague memory,
soft rings,
That once rang loud.
