Today we commit but blood and bones to the funeral pyre
Lifeless matter now death's fuel
What once stood as one, straight backed and noble
Is now a million.
...
Her Spirit
Today we commit but blood and bones to the funeral pyre
Lifeless matter now death's fuel
What once stood as one, straight backed and noble
Is now a million.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
But as the dying embers breathe their last
Sunset orange to funeral black
The spirit makes her move. With invisible wings
She kisses my cheek and soars up to the
Infinite sky.
Round she tumbles, up she darts, leading the swallows in their mesmerising jig.
Fly spirit fly!
Now she surfs the crashing waves, the southern sands, over the khaki fields
Tickling the horse's mane as it throws its head in playful abandon.
She is all around us.
Where the goldfish swims, where the rabbit blinks, where the greenfinch
Hovers in time stood still.
What looked out, now looks in. She is Nature now.
Fly spirit fly!
For when we look for you in spring's bright blue skies
We will always be reminded of those sweet sweet eyes.
