A Seeker
Though a seeker since my birth,
And far and wide I've been
Here is all I've learned on earth,
And here is all I've seen.
The tall church spires that I meet
Are as rich as a diamond star,
But I see instead the dusty street,
Where the starving people are!
Be loving to all mankind, they say,
Or else for your sins you'll atone.
But a poor young babe is, unwanted born,
And a tired old man dies alone.
I hear sweet words whispered to me
Under the moonlit sky
But as the dawn breaks over the world
There's nobody here but I.
