Solitary Confinement

We all get what comes to us in the end,
But is it just or fair?
A flower does not deserve to wilt
Because it was denied sunlight
A firefly cannot breath
Without air holes in the jar you capture it with.
A cage has more freedom than a box.
No holes, no sunlight, no one
The time slips by while also drudging along
I do not want to harm myself
But death seems like an awfully grand adventure.
A book has adventures and worlds to escape to,
But all I have is my mind
Which has gone cold and grey
Not grey but beige
Not wondering in a desert
But lost in a void
I stay up so I can sleep,
And I sleep to pass the time,
