Basim Alansari Poems

Sydney is city of beauty
Surrounded by many trees
It's not just a cuttie
Breathing lovely breeze
...

Go tell the leaders pacing polished floors,
Who track the profit in a sudden fall;
A rough, storm-battered hull has hit the reef,
Answering the heavy, final call.
...

How fragile a child appears
in a hospital room,
when his small hand reaches for yours
as though your touch alone
could hold the world together.

Our love for our children
exists beyond language.
One may keep a diary of the day,
record each passing hour,
every word uttered,
every action taken,
every tear restrained,
every prayer whispered in silence;
yet nothing can truly capture
what a parent feels.

...

The chestnut trees of Europe

still speak in quiet tongues beneath the rain,

their roots entangled with forgotten roads

laid down by Roman hands.
...

You do not ask the earth to keep your footprint.

You walk, and let the dust decide.

You do not fear the darkened room
where breath loosens from the ribs
...

Between rain and sunlight,

this land keeps changing its mind.

The hills breathe mist into the morning,

and the sky hangs low enough
...

A kid once walked in an alleyway
Alone he feared even his shadow
Early hour before break of the day
Escaped through orphanage's window
...

A bird calmly flew by
Waving its wings good bye
Joining its passing next of kin
In its flight, it seemed keen
...

Echoes of Endurance

Sydney is city of beauty

...
Sydney is beyond a town
It's full of life and spirit
For fun it's a crown
Serves its every resident
...
Someone asked me about it
I wondered what to say
How can I describe it
My city and my bay
...
He compared it to London
I disagreed with frown
Sydney is more fun
When compared to any town
...
It's the jewel of down under
The spirit of Australia
In this there's no wonder
People know it as Australia
