Carol Contino Poems

Addictions, afflictions, contradictions and more...
they made us so weak, until we finally hit the floor.
And what do we do, each time they make us fall?
We pass that stuff around like gifts found at the mall.
We pass them along, so quiet and so quick;
we get so much relief, while we make each other sick.
...

Father and son if you could only see
the awesome spirit that surrounds both of thee
Right now is the time; there can’t be any other.
Even the heart, the soul, and the love of a mother
...

Breathe one day it came to me although I don’t know how……
…..and then there was that sound.
The sound of muffled moans of pain, the sound of panic too.
But through it all two sounds stayed loud, the sounds of me and you.

Our Children Our Problems Our Peace

Addictions, afflictions, contradictions and more.
they made us so weak, until we finally hit the floor.
And what do we do, each time they make us fall?
We pass that stuff around like gifts found at the mall.
We pass them along, so quiet and so quick;
we get so much relief, while we make each other sick.

And then, there are our children, so innocent and young.
We want to make them fill our shoes; a new life has begun.
But our problems they must tow cause that is the seed we sow.
We show them how to criticize, when others aren't around, convinced they are the reason why peace cannot be found.

If we look a little closer, we might finally see, the problems aren't our children’s, the problems are in we.
We coach them, we counsel them, we tell them they're all right.
We teach them all they know, we teach them fight or flight.
We're so proud, we talk so loud, and we raise them up so high.
And yet we give them problems that will haunt them till they die.

If a gift of life is really what we meant to give, a gift of life that's free.
Free from all the problems, those were passed to you and me.
The time has finally come to set our captives free.
So children, let me tell you it's time to Let It Be.
Our problems aren't your problems.
You are problem-free.
Our problems are our own to solve of that you must be sure.
Now finally we have found a way to be part of the cure.
