Father And Son Poem by Carol Contino

Father And Son

Father and son if you could only see
the awesome spirit that surrounds both of thee
Right now is the time; there can’t be any other.
Even the heart, the soul, and the love of a mother
cannot even come close what you both have.

So near yet so far, let the journey begin, just like back then when it was your turn.
You’ve been here before, but much wiser and how. You look at your son and he is a man now but that is all. Empty; almost hollow, unable to believe the world as he sees it is full of unknowns. Still looking for guidance and it does abound. Hoping but not asking for help; no not now.

For it is his turn you see, and it’s your turn to be….exactly.
How has your father now become you?
So patient, not judging, compassionate…and how…he did his best to show you a path. But now it is you, who must lead at last. You knew it would come, but you weren’t quite ready. Your turn is now; he’s burdens are heavy.
