Colin Burger Poems

Look at the world today and tell me what you see
Lies, pain, suffering
Horrid crimes, hate, sorrow, grief
Look and tell me if this is right
...

Sitting here all alone
Nothing to do, no one to talk to
Falling through this nightmare wondering if I’ll ever make it out
No one cares, no one listens
...

A mere child of five
He walks through the gates for the first time
Awe struck with the immense size of the stadium
His father urges him to move father in
...

An angel fallen from heaven
She came into my life
She was my saving grace
And brought me back from strife
...

The sun rises on a perfect day
Not a cloud in the sky to hinder its beauty
All the people do the same
The same as they do everyday
...

Feet tap while the music blares
Children run through the hall
With their friends in close pursuit
Teachers all with their class
...

Thoughts race through my mind
There’s no escape
Does she like me, am I kind
Who knows what’s at stake
...

The sun rises
Illuminating her face
Silently she sleeps
She’s smiling in his arms
...

My flesh grows cold
Scared of what may happen
I shiver in fright
My skin feels as though it will fall off
...

10.

Her long brown hair blowing in the wind
Like field of wheat on a summer’s day
Her eyes glistening in the sun
Like a still lake in the distance
...

I return to say hello one day
I speak as a whimpering puppy when he knows of something he’s done wrong
Unknowing of what she may say I begin
I’m sorry for everything I’ve done
...

She walks by glancing into my eyes as she passes
As though saying follow me I’ll let you into my world
I watch her walk the streets everyday still she looks
As though saying follow me I’ll let you into my life
...

Children wake late in the morn
Their parents downstairs at the table
Outside snow falls lightly, silently, peacefully
The children look out the window
...

Look around
The real Christmas is gone
People fighting
Families left out in the cold
...

I close my eyes and her eyes are there
A deep beautiful blue, gazing straight through me
As I fall deeper her smile flashes in my mind
A sight of pure joy, caressing my soul in comfort
...

Her eyes tell a story no one could know
Yet, her smile decieves all who dare try
She dances and sings till days end
The moment she finds herself alone she lets the charade fade
...

17.

We cling to a desolate hope
A promise of a stronger being
It unknowingly guides our lives
Helping to make it through the day The hope, this shadowed idea
...

Our lives are not our own
Twisted and molded by the hour
shaped by those in our lives
our lives are created by circumstance
...

The World Today

Look at the world today and tell me what you see
Lies, pain, suffering
Horrid crimes, hate, sorrow, grief
Look and tell me if this is right
What we put others through for our own enjoyment
Is this right
Or are we just to scared to face the fact
Are we that dependant on our past
That we cant see what we do is wrong
Look at what the world is coming to
A place where none of us feel safe being ourselves
A place where the general, the norm take over and nothing is created
We are at war everyday
Not with a country
But with ourselves
The opposite of war isn’t peace
It’s creation
Look at what we’ve done
