Daniel J. Leddy Poems

Dear Love,
As I lie here on the cool soft earth I think of that day not so long ago, that even though it feels like years ago was only yesterday. We lie here together, my arm around your soldier, looking up at the clouds playing games to see who could find the shape or design in the clouds. I can still hear your cute laugh when I say I think one of the clouds looks like your brothers hair style. I lean over to kiss you but something stops me. A secret long since berried in my heart. The thing which strips my heart to think about. Funny thing is I think about it every time I see you because I am so afraid of loosing you. You turn your head to look at me with that beautiful smile your tongue just parting your lips but your laugh catches in your throat when you see those tears in my eyes. This is the moment, I have to tell you, right now. But I can't. I see the hurt in her eyes when she find that I am hiding something. “Baby, no wait please, I'll tell you. Just come back. But no. She's gone forever.

It's been so long since that day. It's become almost a hidden memory in the recess of my mind. But one day I hear a line from a movie or a song on the radio, I don't even remember what it was that sparked that old desire in my heart for you love. Nut there it is, that old passion to find you and love you again even as a friend. Why was it that I loved you?

What Would You Say?

What would you say to me if we were to meet today? Would you tell me it was worth it all? All the pain, the tears, the joy, the laughter, and the sorrow? Would you tell me I helped and comforted you in times of need? Did I give you the right advice when it came to your relationships? Was I a good brother to you? Did I protect you from danger? Did I laugh enough for you? Did I complement you fully enough? Did I let you know of my love enough?
I am a man without much accomplishment, I have never made a big difference in the world, the only accomplishment I hold dear is never loosing a true friend. Would you tell me I was a true friend to you? That I never betrayed you or forsook? I am not one for poetry because I have only been writing it a short time but would you say that my words flowed with ease and I didn't confuse you easily? Would you tell me you love me?

Because I sure love you.
