Tears For Greed

He struts on top of a mound
of opportunity
Feathered and carpeted desires
unfounded
His fortuitous fortune overwhelms his reason
And he never envisaged it has a limit
So he built his own little empire
Of money and what money can do
Creating a little circle of lieutenants
With raucous approval
Of everything in his book
His strategy to fortify his new-found wealth
Is informed by his fear
of sinking back to consequences
of not been quick
to amass as heavily as time would allow
and so they lived like Kings and Queens of old...

And so it is that one day
What has a beginning
definitely has an end
Our dear fortunate person
Now has to count his days
The days to step aside

On the day it dawned on him that
he would be pushed off the mound
this mound that has served him so well
making him a man of great fortunes
It was just too much to bear
and his household went up in tears
It was indeed a wailing scene
Eyes gone puffy with the tears of anguish
It is though a lesson for all
That what goes up must come down
And never to trust ourselves to wealth
Especially when it is fortuitous

The hangers on had the best of their time
This kind of fortune don't come every day
Better to make the most of it.
