A Friend Evermore

Was it Coincidence?
Or by some slim chance,
That you could, would, and felt you should
Distort, and contort, the true essence of my intent.

See baby, I feel where you're coming from
And you’re right, but only partially
And not, in anyway, can one traverse
A reality that is as common as the inadequacy of a thumb
Cause facts hold not an ounce of faulty
But I’d have to say, you’ve got me all wrong

I showed you a blueprint, configured quite well
Yes there were faults, but you didn’t quarrel
You said overall, its foundation was strong
And with a few adjustments, how could it be torn
But never, did I’d think you’d read and build it so wrong.

See baby, my blueprint was based on a friendship
But I won’t deny, yes, a door I drew,
That could, if opened wide, hold space for more
If, concurrently we were willing to stop and prospect
What a future together could have in store.
Yet it was a vision, but only a speck
And what really mattered was a friend evermore

But you saw the blueprint as so many before.
That weren’t even sketched with a dropp of meaning
And when built, you could swear they were leaning
And took from you, way more than they brought
A blueprint that could leave anyone distraught

See baby, I know that you’ve been hurt
And you’re right, many only want one thing.
But only make generalizations when their due
And haven’t I proved I’m a friend, that’s true
So how dare you ever compare my blueprint with the ones before!
And to look upon my layout with total abhor.
Because what I saw in you was not based on a physical captivation
But something deeper, a connection that is installed in all long-lasting friendships
Something that can and will live on, forever...
