My Country

Had I been a bit more responsible
and not closed my eyes to
what were happening all around,
had I done my role as a citizen of this country
the rascals, the goons and the bootleggers
would not have grabbed the power
and looted the coffers.
Had I not forgiven the guilty
Who raped my daughter
My country would have been
different altogether.
