Hugh Winter Poems

Travelling, travelling, precious time passing by,
Wending winding lanes, searching, dreaming, wondering why,
so many miles, so many times I've made this journey long,
driving faster, quicker, sharper too, - I know it's wrong,
...

Is Valentine's a special day? Of loving love and passion

When roses, golden gifts and diamonds are the fashion.

More Listick Please

Travelling, travelling, precious time passing by,
Wending winding lanes, searching, dreaming, wondering why,
so many miles, so many times I've made this journey long,
driving faster, quicker, sharper too, - I know it's wrong,
braking, slowing, speed traps to appease.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Rain apouring, winds ablowing, progress slowing,
Maybe late, can't be late, said six I'm showing,
heart-beat rising and pulse increasing
because I'm late? no, the girl I'm meeting.
Tamar tolls and more fees.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Slightly anxious, my child at home,
Pizza parlor, don't forget to phone,
said would return - about eleven
and would call before at seven
and again, later, just before I Leave.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Gales and floods, trees that crack,
perhaps I should be turning back,
it's not important after all
for I to make another call,
put off this visit. My thoughts are these.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

This icon that I'm drawn to meet,
this lady strong yet bitter-sweet
with painted face and lipstick stating
I am ‘power' - intimidating.
Unsettled heart and buckled knees.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Lisa- fragile girl with fragile heart,
strong in life yet weak to part,
sending signals, all directions,
warts and all and imperfections.
Leesa no! Lisa yes - corrections these.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Syntactic lady that corrects my speach
ofTen using her skills to teech
Do I need this? - it doesn't matter,
chided too if I don't flatter,
adjusts my words with competent ease.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Lisa's pleased to see me, so she said,
don't smudge the make-up, shake hands instead
meet me at a place I of_en frequent
where people go for emergency treatment.
A praying Manta is her steed.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

I know my place, does she know hers?
yes! she does, she slowly purrs,
so positively determined she knows her needs,
I'm running scared, on this she feeds,
too much future Lisa sees.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

One thousand five hundred and eighty six miles travelled,
and still the mystery remains unravelled,
talking problems past and present,
melancholy then affervescent,
far more than smokies cause the wheeze.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Her expressive face, her gaze - I'm sinking -
imploring look, 'tell me what you're thinking'.
another look, an impish smile.
Lisa has a mind to guile.
Now deep set look, eyes are greying.
No lipstick now - Lisa's praying.

Others lives, did not fare so good,
Lisa would amend them if she could.
She paddles in a stream of trouble,
helping others and retains their rubble.
Her blood for sucking, by others fleas.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Children - children's children too,
caring, loving, stoic overview.
No god, no master, just altruism.
A shard of light. a golden prism.
No moment in life for Lisa to seize.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

Lisa and I singing out of tune,
Are we really? - this I impugn.
A road less travelled we have seen
a cruel trick of time, what might have been?
Perhaps in all, it's for the best.
More lipstick now - and the rest.

The lake is deep with peril waters, the other side is far,
lurks beneath - too fraught - distant as a star.
We cannot know the raging seas, to cross the far divide,
yet why to tip the boat right now? while the shore is by our side.
Another time, another place, another's reason sees.
And Yet - more lipstick please!

And Yet - more lipstick please!
