The Flame

Flame
🔥

No compass to guide me.
No bearing can I find.
Wandering the desert sand,
A drifting, shifting waste.

No moon to brighten up the night.
I pray for sundown's haste.
But Sundown he's a comin' soon,
He has a job to do.
To cast his pitchy shadow
O'er the bleary, bleary land.

Dark of night befalls me.
A treading, dreading gloom.
I cry out to the heavens,
Please take away the loom!

The raven chill encases me.
Oh Lord, please set me free!
Alone in the desert night,
No guiding light I see.

Footsteps crunch the desert sand,
Muffling sound of breeze.
Pinhole ray of light ahead,
That sets my heart at ease.

A spark!
A spark!
Spark to a wick.
Tiny little twinkle.
Candle newly lit.

Beyond the golden teardrop glow,
The flame she glows so bright.
Hungry tongues of fire reach
And lick away the night.

Darkness fled around me.
No longer walking blind.
Lighting up the desert sky,
The flame burns clean and chaste.

Flame, she pushed away the night.
She had no time to waste.
Cause Sunup, she's a comin' soon,
She has a job to do.
To cast off Sundown's shadow
O'er the cheery, cheery land.
