A bird, sitting on a treetop, creates a quiet song
about pride, and love, and dreams.

A Bird Sings In Vain

A bird, sitting on a treetop, creates a quiet song
about pride, and love, and dreams.
The bird's song is beautiful.
It has worked on the song for days, weeks
perfecting its lovely tune.

A bird, sitting on a treetop, sings a quiet song
about greatness, and passion, and kindness.
The bird sings with all its soul,
every note voiced from the heart.
Yet, as the bird sings its song, the people still pass along
not worrying about the bird's great tune.

A bird, discouraged on a treetop, sings a louder song
about bitter, spiteful and scornful things.
The bird sings from the heart.
The others now hear it, if only for a minute
then go back to their daily toil.

A bird, dying on a treetop, breathes a quiet breath.
A song it will no longer sing.
One of the people states, "Hark! "
"Remember the bird that was atop that tree
that sang a most wonderful song? "
And the people do remember,
and they sing the song again and again,
for a bird will never stop singing.
