Joshua Griffiths Poems

Oh where is that flame to light the fire of my soul,
Like cast iron wanting for a spark from the forge,
Fit to gorge on the silver lined substance of my whole -
A goal that flickers so in the remissive shining of the moon?
...

A body for everybody,
The ideal face and skin,
The eyes of everybody,
Blue green brown souls within.
...

Bring me not a world of money;
Bring me a world of wealth.
Your spirit lies impoverished,
Mine in luxurious health.
...

Dull white walls,
I sit in my office typing;
Tapping away an eternity for a sake
I know but don't;

Where?

Oh where is that flame to light the fire of my soul,
Like cast iron wanting for a spark from the forge,
Fit to gorge on the silver lined substance of my whole -
A goal that flickers so in the remissive shining of the moon?

Oh where is that flame to light the fire of my soul,
Who, with me like a foal from its mother's womb,
So journeyed Into the gloom of this sluggish and lightless world?

It can't be seen amidst a sea of suits from skyscrapers high,
Nor can it be found in the ocean depths or along the steps that
March up mountains to the sky,
Unless be it there where you lie,
For when I have nothing my heart it holds something...
And I think that something is you.
