Joy Beasley Poems

As I sit and consider you and me
I can recall never wanting it to be three
I am selfish that way
Always wanted you to stay
...

You were my high school dream
But when I woke up
Why did I scream?
How did you become my nightmare?

I Consider

As I sit and consider you and me
I can recall never wanting it to be three
I am selfish that way
Always wanted you to stay
With me
All the time
I really did believe you were mine
But first you proved me wrong
After that you moved on
You did exactly what you wanted too
While I struggled to pull my way through
My mind understood
That this was meant to be
But heart still dreams
Of just you and me
As I sit and consider
Three would have been fine
As long as I would’ve known
You were both mine.
Three wasn’t meant to be
As we both began to see
Three didn’t belong to you
Three didn’t belong to me
Soon there was no three
It was just you and me
Three belonged to God
And it felt so odd
That you refused to see
I was still here
Wanting your touch
Needing you near
Why wasn’t my love enough
Why did you have to be so tough
It was hard for me too
You weren’t the only one going through
Three meant something to me as well
Why couldn’t you tell
I fought like hell
She was my blood mixed with you
There was nothing I wouldn’t do
To save her life
Still you cut me like a knife
Now I sit all alone
And I consider
Yes
I consider
