Never First Begin Poem by Joy Beasley

Never First Begin

You were my high school dream
But when I woke up
Why did I scream?
How did you become my nightmare?
You were supposed to always be there
For me
It took so much for me to see
That we were never meant to be
I wanted you all the time
But you never could make your heart mine
Those words you said
They really were dead
You didn’t mean them at all
I didn’t mean to fall
So in love with you
now I’m stuck
What do I do?
How do you expect me to pull through?
When my world revolves around you
Miss lady
My girl
The only one I want in this world
You I adore
Insatiable and more
They were all lies
So you could get between my thighs
You had your way
And now I sit here today
In pain
that is so hard to bear
And you don’t even care
But somehow I’ll survive
Not looking in your eyes
Or feeling your touch
Or hearing your lies
Won’t pick up the phone
I’ll just stay here alone
Thinking of how I’m such a fool
And how you taught me
What couldn’t be learned in school
That love is not the way to go
And you can’t even trust the people you know
Take all words with a grain of salt
So when I leave
It will be their fault
For ever trusting me
Then they’ll learn their lesson and see
For in the end of the love war
you win
If you never first begin
