Half Days

golden brown crumbs
safe rounds by the wheels
of the can opener

little girl limbs
a hip jutted against a heavy door
the slender ticking

of a rusty lock undone
small chest sighs
like small birds

climbing through
a ridged window opening
sliding on old books

round brassy knobs
simple orange melt
lunch on half days.
