Memories slip in at this time of year As back through the years we peer The farm was always the place to be For my brothers, sis, mom, dad and me. Though I still hold the first doll you ever gave Its the memories that I will always save Dad playing Santa for all the wee ones He even tricked his own daughters and sons. Toys and gifts we didn't get a ton But it was still a time of sledding fun! A Christmas tree was a special treat Hey, it was hard to keep the oranges to eat! We'd hang our stocking for all to see Using the large ones that went to the knee We hopefully waited for the candy to show But poor dad, all he ever got was a potato. King Pedro, how could one forget How foolish our dad would always bet Not even a king would he hold in his hand And once in a while, a 44 he would land! The family grew, we all met a mate And went on with what was our fate You gave us courage and wings to fly Told us to be brave and not to cry.
