Night Duty

Giant warm marshmallows cling to my feet and slow my passage as I move through the drawling minutes of the wee hours.
So, so tired.
Eyelids droop irresistibly, heavy like the soft undulations of a Shar Pei dog, a dream hiding between each fold.
So, so tired.
Slipping, subsiding into slumbers.
Suddenly startling back to corporeality.
So, so tired.
Sleep, please, just let me nestle into your pillowy repose.
