He starts packing his bags

trying to hold back all the tears.

Another Season
He starts packing his bags
grabbing his clothes and everything else he needs.
We stand in the doorway watching him
trying to hold back all the tears.
He packs his truck that night
to get ready to leave the very next day
It is his last night home for the
next eight months.
Early the next morning we are all
awake to say our goodbyes
and watch him pull out of the
drive way. It is another season of him
going away to play in the
raging flames of the forest.
Another season of our mother
worrying, missing the protection
of him in our home, and
another season of nightmares
until he returns home safe and sound.
