Leonard Ikojo Poems

I came here full of doubt,
Not of myself or those about,
I came here in chains of fear and full of doubt.
...

I recall vividly when it all went wrong,
The events replaying themselves like a never-ending song,
I resolved I would never be slain again,
Only to pick up myself, and walk the lonely path again.

I came here full of doubt,
Not of myself or those about,
I came here in chains of fear and full of doubt.

My feet dragged me along this path,
My heart regretting this very act,
My mind reviewing the facts.

I could hear you approach me; inaudible footsteps,
Each step an added weight on my chest,
This was it; I would know if I passed the test.

I looked up at my judge, my case, my fate,
And you looked past the stranger on this date,
Somehow you saw in me a friend, a mate.

I am still uncertain about how things went that night,
But the light I see in you daily shines bright,
And I know without a doubt, for me, you are right.
