When I was a young boy many decades ago
I thought babies like flowers in the gardens did grow
That's what I was told and what I did believe
Children have their innocence and are not hard to deceive.

I wish i could have retained my childhood innocence i had lost it long before i reached my prime
It was indeed a thing of inner beauty i have only only grown more cynical with time
As we do age we do garner more knowledge but every thing in life comes at a cost
And from us something beautiful has gone forever that is how it is when our innocence we've lost

As a very young boy in Millstreet County Cork
I was told and believed that a baby was brought to the baby's mother by a stork
And most children what they are told do believe
Compared to adults they are not that hard to deceive

You have lost your nostalgia for the what used to be
Even of the good memories of what was you are finally free
You can only live in the now you have come to realize
The past it has gone like this morning's sunrise

He is not the person that he used to be
And a darker World out there is all he can see

He was a year or two younger than Joe
And the story of Tony his boyhood mate
Down at the local I heard him relate.

They roamed the roads of Ireland in horse drawn caravan
And I envied them their freedom the carefree wandering clan
Their favourite horses Pinto in colours white and brown
And two weeks at most their longest stay in any country town

There must be something wrong with me I've no wish to go home
To see again old Clara hill it's face of het and stone
The land of Caithlin Ni Houlahain I have no wish to see
I've lost the urge to return home what has come over me? .

Along the banks of Lake of Bonnie Doon
The moon beams like gold dust on her nut brown hair
And sweet scenting the perfume she did wear.

So tragic to lose their only child in this way
Their beautiful dark haired daughter she was only nineteen
Her best days in life she had not even seen

I struggle to define the definition between buddy and friend and mate
Lost in definition i have been of late
Though seemingly similar the words buddy, mate and friend
In them may vary in meaning why otherwise pretend

For our every mistake we have some price to pay
But the best we can do is to live in the day
Since the past it has gone to the forever more
And who knows what the future for us has in store

Though they spoke in a different language to me
I could tell that verbally on something that they did not agree
As they shouted at each other on the walk-way
I can say they did not bring joy to my day
