At Night [old Poem]
Beside the pale, gentle moon
There shone a single radiant star,
Etched in the night of somber hue.
As I looked up a mighty swoon
Came over me, for so very far
Stood the star in the dark blue...
So lofty to me it seemed,
More beautiful than I could endure.
At length it spoke, and I understood,
Or was it that I only dreamed?
'Tis very hard now to be sure,
Now that its voice is gone for good.
But I heard it speak -so softly- to me,
In me awoke true love through kindness:
I thought I'd found what I still seek.
