Remembering (For Noliwe)

I remember the day
We first met at the stream
I was bewildered by your beauty
Words abandoned my tongue, but
We exchanged greetings and names
But i could not look into yours
Because my eyes were in coy pregnancy.

I remember the day
You wove a dance into frenzy like a goddess
At the village-square
I thunder-clapped, our eyes met
Your gaptoothed smiles rose like the waves
And caressed my breast.

I remember the noon
We sat under the green canopy of an udara tree
Twiddling leaves, sharing love vows
Receiving romantic scratch from the sun's ...
