Matt Pratt Poems

It started with a sunny day,
And not too long ago.
On that day the wind did say,
'I'll soon begin to blow.'
...

Turkey, stuffing, taters n gravy,
So much food makes you lazy.
More turkey, green beans n pie..
So much food you might just cry.
...

Expressing yourself poetically,
Is often done so nerve-rackingly,
Unless done in complete anonymity-..
I think you're so very pretty.
...

I know you don't really like gifts,
Perhaps you'd rather be at sea by skiffs,
Rocking around as the tide shifts.
A gift, for you, my spirit lifts.
...

No matter what I say, no matter what I do,
It seems all of it, just frustrates you.
Now it seems when I talk to you,
There's nothing you wouldn't rather do.

I Stand

It started with a sunny day,
And not too long ago.
On that day the wind did say,
'I'll soon begin to blow.'

On that day as the sun went down,
I unintentionally dropped a leaf.
'Oh deary me, ' I said with a frown,
I stared with disbelief.

I stood up tall through rain and sleet.
Wind blew so hard my branches squeaked.
While all my leave lay at my feet,
Through the air the lightning streaked.

I felt like giving in.
It was more than I could take,
I'd taken quite the spin,
On and on without a break.

Weeks the wind stirred,
I could not see the end.
Then next to me I heard,
'Just hang on, my friend.'

There was a tall tree next to me,
And to me, he had said,
'I'm sure from there, you can't see,
But the sun just peaked its head.

It will all be over soon,
If you just hang on a bit.'
Twas about the time of noon,
That all around was lit.

The wind had died,
The rain had stopped.
My branches sighed.
Many leaves had dropped.

But now here I stand.
I've survived the storm.
And on this land,
Is my solid platform.
