Once Built, Once Shattered

With angles we adorn ourselves
To complicate connections
Baggage safely stored on shelves
Such personal collections
A stencil fashioned on ourselves
When cast in all directions
Is all the cause we need to delve
In others' imperfections

For as you do, so do we all
Construct a hard-fought shell
How better, every time we fall
Before we might, to tell
What character assaults the wall?
How deep remains the well?
How loud, this time, to sound the call?
How strong to ring the bell?

But once a life this precious lot
Is left ...
